Iran continued to see corruption mainly because of the repeated occupation of the European and Western powers again. Making the U.S.’ intervention in the oil industry a huge issue, Britain started to fight for oil nationalism. Britain occupied Iran in WWII to protect the supply route to its ally, Soviet Union, for oil through the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company (Schmider). In 1951, attempting to remain neutral and gain freedom, Majlis voted to nationalize the oil industry, yet angered the British even more. Since the Americans were mostly taking in charge of Iran during that time, they claimed that they were afraid of Iran turning into a Communist country, falling into the Soviet Union if the provision of oil to Britain and Soviet Union became too much. Iran was essentially a victim of the superpower’s ambitions to possess the oil resources and was helpless as it could not prevent the foreign powers from intruding in its affairs.
